“Writing Off” Tax Giveaways focuses on the thirty-one states plus the District of Columbia that offer itemized deductions, and analyzes five options for itemized deduction reform. The study, released on August 24, 2010, shows that itemized deduction reform could play a positive role in making state tax systems fairer and more sustainable. For each of the reform options examined by the report, the map below details the amount of revenue that could be raised by the reform, as well as the percentage of taxpayers that would face tax increases, and the percentage that would receive tax cuts.
